A Whale of a Weekend

Happy Monday, I hope that you all had a great weekend.
We finished up Spring sports and I have to tell you that I am glad to be taking a bit of a break. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching the kids play and we had a lot of fun but it is so nice to just slow down.
School will be finishing up soon so we still have some concerts and recitals to attend but it will be a bit slower pace. :)

Last week I had some time here and there to try a small project that I have been wanting to do.

Here is my inspiration:


I have been eye-balling these for a while now and ever since I tried the jig saw on my daughters starfish headboard I had been itching to try something else.

So...

I drew a whale on a scrap piece of wood that we had

cut it out,

and gave it a coat of yellow paint and sanded it down a bit.

I am really happy with it and again, no straight lines so it was fairly easy to cut out. :)

I am sure that he will find a place in my kitchen somewhere, I am slowly adding some things into the kitchen and incorporating more of the yellow with the grays in there.
And who knows, he may just need a friend. :)

    Very cute! I like how the knot in the wood and the other flecks/graining shows up and makes "him" look so much better than a plain piece of wood would... well that ended weird! :)

    I love the whale! What saw did you use to cut that out? I asked Hubs to make me the same thing but he was under the impression that cutting curves like that would be extremely difficult especially for the blade.

    Michelle, you did a wonderful job with the jigsaw it's lovely! My Hubby has done some vintage looking signs for me in the past and one was a cow. He did a great job, it's like you said, the curves make it easier. I've always loved those wooden whales, they remind me of the signs that greet you when you enter Fisherman's Wharfs and places like that. Great job, xxx

    What a cute little whale. I used to use a jigsaw and cut out shapes that I sold at craft fairs. That was a loooong time ago though. I hear you about wanting things to slow down. Now that homeschooling is done, I am busier than ever getting ready for my son's graduation...but at least I can get some projects done...because they need to get done before anyone can see my house LOL!

    OH MY FRIEND, I am finally home from a long day at school, I am comfortable in my seat and I am loving what you are doing here!!!!! THIS IS A GREAT IDEA and you did it so well! Michelle, you could sell these! This is fabulous and you would be proud of me; in the middle of my French décor, I HAVE SEA SHELLS OUT! I put some in an old jar, and some in a white alabaster bowl and I love the feel of the place. I still have that French Farmhouse/chateau feel but let's say with a sea-side feel...Mont St. Michel style!

    Oh dearest, a tornado hit us yesterday about 20 miles from me; I heard the sirens but one person was killed. We got nothing here but in North Minneapolis, a lot of damage was done.
