Pillowcase Lamp Shade

Thank you for all your kind comments on my little trip around The Cove here, I am really enjoying floofing around the house and putting treasures in different rooms and just seeing what I can come up with.

When I was glued to Pinterest looking for inspirations for the bonus room I ran across this:

I love the shabbiness of it and it looked like something that I could handle, so off to Walmart I went.
I picked up two standard white pillowcases for around $10.

I cut the pillowcase so I could get as many strips out as I could.
Just make sure that your strips are going to be long enough to go around the lamp shade.

To make things easier, I cut into it about an inch and then ripped the rest of the way.

These sheets tear brilliantly!

I had just enough strips to cover the shade and I am sure that there is some mathematical way to figure that out before you start but unfortunately I don't know that. :)
So, I guessed. :)

Now you just tie on your strips and place the knot/bow in the position that want overlapping each strip.

You will have little gaps in certain areas but if your shade is the same color you won't notice.
(Although it would be cool to do a different color and have that contrast)

Here is what it looks like all finished up.

Now you noticed that this is a different lamp and shade then the one I showed in my last post and the reason being I just changed my mind.  :)
I wanted to show you how it originally started out and how it can look like this, which I do love, but I wasn't feeling it in the room.
So, all I did was put all the knots/bows on the inside of the shade and if I ever want a change, it is an easy switch.

I love how it turned out and think that this way fit the room a little more than what I originally had in mind. :)

Around the Cove

Hello lovely ladies and of course handsome gents!
I hope you are all well and had a good weekend.
Things are ok here.  My hubby's surgery went well and he is resting somewhat uncomfortably right now but hopefully within the next couple days he will be feeling better.  Thank you all so much for the well wishes, prayers, emails, phone calls and gifts, I can't tell you how much they mean to us and if I could, I would give you all huge hugs!  :)
You certainly know how to raise one spirits.

The day after Christmas I took all the Christmas stuff down and started rearranging things around The Cove.  I also got my butt back upstairs to my bonus room which had sat there for weeks untouched.
I started adding back to my decor my love for all things beach and shabby.

I received this beautiful lacy linen and porcelain box from my dear and beautiful friend Sandra and thought they looked perfect with boat and other treasures.

A peak from the family room into the kitchen.

My daughter made me the beach sign.
She had a great time making signs this year for everyone and they all turned out beautiful.

Some of you were wondering what that was hanging from my dividers from my last post.
It is a driftwood garland.
It usually makes it way around the house.

I added my faux coral and beautiful aqua bottles to my hutch.

In the bonus room I decided to brighten it up a bit and add more beachy touches up there;  after all, that's what makes me the happiest. :)

I finally found a spot for my ladder that I picked up last summer at the Flea Market.
I then made a mirror, with the looking glass spray,  from a large picture frame that I had.
I used the technique that Kindra (she always knocks my socks off with her amazing crafts) used on her door here.
It is hard to see and I should have taken an up-close photo but it looks worn and old.
I also made some paint jars which I will show you more of later. :)

I splurged at Target for this glass lamp.
I LOVE these alot and even though it wasn't PB price, it was still about $40, but so worth it for me.

I made the lamp shade out of two pillow cases and I will show you how to do that in another post.

I took some more of my faux coral and added a starfish and driftwood.
This makes me happy. :)

I had this little caddy in my family room and thought maybe he would like to live here for a while filled with driftwood and more starfish.
Did I ever tell you how much I love driftwood?  ;)
The beautiful paintings are from the ever-so-lovely Michele, who so graciously painted these for me.

So there you have it, a little trip around The Cove.
I am off to go take care of my patient and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Softening up a Corner

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!
I can't believe it is 2012 already!
I hope you all had a wonderful and safe New Years.
I want to thank everyone for their supportive comments on my last post.  I know we all go through this and it is just so wonderful to know that we are not alone.  The biggest struggle for me is to not give in to my fears and I know that I will take a few steps backwards, but as long as I am making up that ground and then some, I will be good to go. :)
Also thank you so much for the wishes and prayers for my hubby's surgery this week, he was touched by all your kindness and caring.

As we are waiting for our first snow storm here in Michigan, which is very odd and made for a long break with the kids not being able to go sledding or make a snowman or snowball fights, I wanted to cozy up a little corner in my family room so I went to good 'ole Walmart and picked up four, $4.00 sheer panels and a double rod to hang them on.  I think I paid 25 bucks for everything.

Here is what my little corner looked like before.

I loved the opened window but it just needed something.
Growing up I can remember my Grammy's windows and the way that she hung her curtains.  They were always soft and so pretty as they draped to frame the window but still let lots of light in.

So I thought that that is how I would do this window.
I LOVE IT!

It covers the window enough to make it cozy yet I can still see out and light can still come in.

I then used twine as a tie back and

attached some very special shells, thank you Sandra. :)

It gives me the beachy/airy/cozy look that I was looking for.
Can something be airy and cozy at the same time?  Hhmmmmm.  ;)

In A Nutshell..

WOW!!!!!
Can I just tell you what a warm day does to ones soul?!!

I have been waiting for this...

for what seems like FOREVER!! :)
Warm breezes finally came through the house. It was almost 80 here today and we loved it!

Last week was pretty good.
It didn't start off so well with my little one being sick and we missed out on an indoor waterpark and then we had icky weather, a few bumps in the road with some appointments and then I had to work.

BUT,

We did find some time in between to

climb some trees....

take many rides out to the beach and the docks....

give a little scale a makeover...

put up a gallery wall in the family room....

and just relax a bit!!

It was a nice break and much needed because the upcoming weeks are going to be BUSY!!
Spring sports have started and that means that not only does my oldest play but so does my little one, so we will be here and there and everywhere!
I love it though, it is so fun to watch them play, learn and have fun. :)

I have missed you and can't wait to catch up and please bare with me if I am a bit late on commenting and responding and posting.

I also want to apologize for the sending out emails that had to do with Shoppybag. I tried to catch it as soon as I could and let you know and hopefully I didn't break anyones computer. :(

If you signed up I would delete your account and change your email settings to not allow that site. If you need more info, please let me know and again I am REALLY sorry!!!

Hopefully I will be back soon to show you what we did today over this:

I also wanted to thank Marie from Sally Lee By The Sea and Heather and Vanessa from At the Picket Fence for featuring my beachy redos!

Thank you so much ladies!!
Please stop by and say hello, you will find yourself surrounded with so much inspiration and friendship. :)

Also, if you have not read, my friend Marcia from Blessed Mom's Simple Home has a nephew, Jordan, who was wounded severely in Afghanistan and is now home in the states undergoing surgeries to repair what was done. Please read here about what had happened and also here to see the latest update and an address to send him some birthday wishes this month. If you could send up some prayers as well, that would be even better. :)

See you soon!!
