Happy Valentines Day everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
The sun managed to show itself here Saturday and Sunday so that was wonderful! It is supposed to get a bit warmer but then colder. Michigan is always such a tease when it comes to the weather!
Speaking of teases, I left you with a little sneaky peak at what I was working on last week.
Well, we are all finished with and I am happy as a clam about it!
It feels like a whole new room even though I would have loved a real one, budget would not allow.
But,
that is ok because we spent a whopping $30.00 on it!!
I know right!!
Ok, ok, I will stop talking and start showing! :)
So without further ado....my faux fireplace!!
This is how the wall between the windows started out.
We ripped out the the vertical boards of the board and batten.
(Oops!!)
We hung the shelf that used to be above the bed after I painted it white.
(if you want to see what it looked like before click here)
We then started framing in the sides of the faux fireplace.
After the sides were in, I purchased two brackets to hold the "hearth".
Hubby surprised me and added some trim around the sides!
Nice!! :)
I also patched up the huge hole in the drywall as well as the screw and nails holes.
I should note that we screwed in the shelf because it is very heavy!
We then used the nail gun (love me my power tools) for all the other pieces.
I then painted the whole thing white and added two strips of wood to add a pop of color.
I used the Shoreline Mist and the color that I used on my daughters bed, which for the life of me I can't think of.
I then sanded it up a bit and dry brushed it with the gray that I had left over to give it that aged look.
Then I "beached" it up by adding some things that I had around the house including driftwood, shells, fake coral, candles.
It felt so good to open the windows, even though it was only about 38 degrees, and feel the sun come in.
Even Bosco enjoyed his little bit of fresh air!
The photo in the frame is from my visit to Carmel California, which I would love to go back to someday, and the picture in the flower frog is one of my favorites of my hubby, my daughter and myself walking down the beach.
I have changed some things up a bit on the mantel and I will show you that along with the whole bedroom reveal this coming week! :)
I am so happy with the results of this and even happier that it didn't cost much of anything. We just used the things that we had and the only we purchased were a few pieces of wood to frame out the faux fireplace.
Also, don't forget to enter my CSN giveaway!
I am enjoying reading all your favorite things about Spring, it makes me even more excited for the sunny days, flip flops and getting my hands dirty in the garden!
Keep em coming!!
I will linking up to the parties in my "Linky Party" tab!

I love it, what a great focal point, very beachy:)
This is gorgeous, girl! You and hubby did a fantastic job! For real....really great. You decorated it great also.
Oh Michelle, it's just perfect tucked between the windows. How romantic and charming to have a fireplace in the bedroom. Amazing that you did this for $30. These sell for hundreds of dollars at the antique malls. Way to go! I luuurve that window and all your beachy touches. Looking forward to the room reveal. Don't do it tomorrow, k? I won't be here...lol!
Happy Valentine's Day my friend!

Well look at you girlie. Way to go, I'm loving that you actually made an amazing faux fireplace, it looks amazing and it only cost you $30. Yeah for you!
Love the whole thing... faux fireplace and accessories. I think my favorite is the addition of the 2 boards in different colors. They really make it all "pop". Can't wait to see the whole room.

I love it!
And those frames!...
I haven't been in much of a sewing, torching, or decorating mood this weekend.
Could you send some of that energy my way?
:)
Fun & I love the old windows on the "mantle" too.
Warmly, Michelle
I love it Michelle!! You are so handy, with all your power tools! I am so impressed, love the pop of blue too!! xoxo Amber

I just knew this project would be fabulous! You and your hubby make a great team! I love all the special touches.
Carmel is very pretty. We drove on the outskirts of it when we were taking a coastal drive on our Montery trip. I can't wait to visit there again also!
Happy Valentines Day sweetie!!!
I heart you so much!

This is SERIOULSY good. There is no way I was going to guess that this is what you had up your sleeve, clever thing you. I've been trying to convince hubby that wainscoting would look great in our dining room. I don't think he's going to be thrilled at me mentioning faux mantles (frantles),
Cheers,

I just came across your blog. Lucky me! I'm now your newest follower. I have an old fireplace mantel that I have leaning against my dining room wall. We'll secure it someday, but not until we get hardwood floors down. Your faux fireplace looks great.

Hi Michelle! Your faux fireplace is so beautiful! I love how you used such wide pieces of wood for the sides and under the shelf that became your mantel, which was very clever, by the way! :) Oh, and how you decorated it is SO gorgeous! I can't wait to see the whole room when you're finished with it, too! :)
Happy Valentine's Day to you, and I hope you have a good night! :)

I looove it! I get so excited when you have new projects to share gets me motivated!
30 dollars?!?! Unbelievable! You did a fantastic job!
That's a great idea Michelle! and executed with your usual beachy flair! Are you going to embellish the center piece in any way? Maybe a worn old mirror, reflecting a group of candles, would make it even more like a real fireplace...?
What a great idea...but please take a picture back farther so we can see it with the windows like in the first picture!!!! Dianntha
It looks amazing!! Your new beach oasis. We can all use a bedroom beach theme after this long winter!

I love this! Something else to add to my To-Do list!
Wow this looks awesome! I'd love to see you at my linky party tomorrow :)
Perfect in every way! This is undoubtedly the best project I have ever seen in Blogland.
When I moved out of my house last year, I took my fireplace screen and packed it away. It is wrought iron and holds about twelve little votive candles. Living in Florida, we used the candles more than we did the fireplace. Your project will be perfect for my screen once I get settled again. Thanks for such a great idea!
AND you know I just adore all the beachy touches. Like I said, perfect!
Loving the mood you have created here, so relaxing!
thanks for linking up your super cute and creative project Michelle! Have a great weekend!!
