Decorating Resolutions

Last year we did some major changes in our home, the biggest one being our family room where we installed new floors and painted.  We also spruced up our bedroom with a faux fireplace and then I completely changed our bonus room. ( which reminds me I still have to show you the whole room yet. : ) To top it off, my daughter and son got a room revamp as well.
Wow I was crazy!

I was thinking about what I wanted to do this year.
We are running out rooms to completely redo but there does remain one.
Our "big" bathroom that really isn't so big.
This room has haunted me since we moved in and I put it off every year, only changing accessories.
It is narrow and consists of about a 3 x 7 foot area that you can walk in.  There is a huge vanity, a tub and of course the toilet.
The floor is made up of the sticky linoleum tiles that worked well at the time but are now starting to peel up.
Here is a look.

Very small!

Too much vanity!
Notice that the knobs are gone on the drawers by the door?
Either the door or our knees would hit them and they eventually broke off.

The door takes up too much space when open.
A pocket door would be perfect.
Trying to fit two kids and me in there is not fun in the morning.

SO here are some ideas that I have been ooohing and aaahhing over.

I would love to open it up with a pedestal sink and mirror like this.
(I actually really love this bathroom)

I would also like tile such as this or the smaller octagonal shapes and subway tile half way up the wall or even beadboard.

And of course a clawfoot tub which I am pretty sure that that won't happen because I don't even think that you can fit it into the room unless you blow out a wall.
Hhhmmmmmm.........

These are the colors that I am leaning towards, something serene yet beachy.

I also need to finish up painting the the stairway wall that leads up to the bonus room and possibly doing something with the stairs themselves.  Right now they have carpet on them.  I am also going to re-re-repaint my entryway/laundry room.  It is a mud brown and I will just brighten it up with the white that I have used throughout the house.
The last two will be easy fixes and I am not even sure when  the bathroom will get started because we want to do some landscaping this year as well.

WOW if I could get half of that done I'd be happy :)

I love your bathroom ideas... the pedestalish sink, the hex tiled floor and of course beadboard, you can never go wrong with that!

Hopefully we'll be getting a few projects done in doors ourselves this year since last year was pretty much spent working on our rental property!

Can't wait to see what you come up with...

I love your color choices! I like all of your bathroom choices too, but I'm partial to the first one. The shape and size of that pedestal sink is really appealing.

We had a bathroom like that in our last house..it was narrow and 15 feet long. It felt like being in a tunnel. We actually shortened the room and made the back of it into a closet (that opened into the room on the other side of the bathroom). I think bathrooms are one of the hardest things to redo because you are stuck with plumbing, etc, unless you want to pay the bucks to change it all around. Good luck~ xo Diana

Hi sweets!
You have accomplished so much on your sea-home!
I love, love, love everything you have done to make your home a dreamy, by the sea, haven.
It has such a light, airy, sea-mist about it all...just what you love!
I know...bathrooms can be a "big deal" when it comes to re-decorating etc, but I know you'll make it perfect in your time.
We've done ours too, but hubby still has to put the mud-stuff on the ceiling and one small wall, and then I have to prime and paint afterwards.
The beadboard is all up and once all the yucky stuff is finished ...all the pretties can get added. But its ice-fishing season here, and snow-mobiling time, and he's enjoying that while he can! As for me, Im loving those leisurely baths in a brand new tub even if the whole room isnt completed yet.
Lol
Love that wide sink and that last photo of that bathroom is so perfect..Ill take that one please!
:)
Happy day sweetie!!
Love your choice of inspiring colours too..very soft and natural.

All my love,
Deborah xoxoxooxoxoxooxoxooxoxo

Last year you did so much, all so gorgeous! The bathroom is going to be beautiful as well. I love allyour inspiration pictures. I don't understand why builders put HUGE vanities in little bathrooms. I think that was the first thing we changed out when we moved in 11 years ago :)
Hope you are doing well!
Lots of love

I totally hear ya on the bathroom - I hate mine!! But it's one of those things that I keep putting off because it can be a lot of work (and $$$) to get it all done. Love your inspiration, and the color palette is very soothing.

Hi Michelle- love your 'big' bathroom. Our 'big' bathroom is roughly the same size as yours and it's the ONLY bathroom.
I've been looking at inspiration for that room too.
With the budget being what it is...one big fat $0... I'm hoping to make some changes I can live with a while longer. Mainly re-decorating. No remodeling.
I just painted it on Sunday. Wow...that was so much better already.

I loved your inspiration photos.
You can do much with a little...I'll be watching for you updated bathroom.
take care,Pat

I absolutely love that huge pedestal sink! We have two pedestal sink in the master bath and one in the powder room. Regular size..., just love them. I know they don't offer storage..., so that's some thing to consider.

Karena said...

I would do a pedestal sink and then maybe shelves to hold what would have been in the vanity.

Adore the color palette!

you picked some great inspiration pics that will be fabulous! i love the tile and want to replace both bathrooms in my hose with that hexagon tile. there is so much i want to do as well, so i hear you loud and clear! you have accomplished so much already though and all has been so beautiful!

If you can do the pocket door then definitely do that. We did it and I LOVE it. SO much better. If you have another tub in the house, you could get rid of this tub and do a huge shower instead. We did that and I'm so glad we did. It really opened up the bathroom and we got a nice tile shower. We put a jacuzzi tub in our 2nd bathroom so it worked for us.

I can just see all three of you in that little bathroom in the morning bumping into each other. Has anyone ended up in the tub yet...?? lol! Your vision is sooo spot on, as usual, Michelle! That pedestal sink is goooorgeous and would look fabulous in there. When you get done with yours....wanna help me tear up the carpeting in BOTH of my bathrooms? Yeah. Carpeting. In bathrooms. Yuck..... :) Can hardly wait to see what you come up with, girlie!

Oh I can't wait to see what you come up with! As always, I know it will be gorgeous. I am hoping to get to our main bathroom this year too. Ours will be a knock em' down, blow out the walls redo. I look forward to a new bathroom, but tremble at the scope of the work to be done. I have some other spaces to do first though, so I'll think of that later.

Blessings dear friend.

I have a bathroom that's dying for a makeover so I'll be anxious to see what you pick. I love the idea of a pedestal sink though. It would really open up the area if you don't need the storage (that's my dilemma).

Hi Michelle!

You got so much done last year! I was impressed all along the way! And I love your list for this year, too! Your bathroom inspiration pictures are gorgeous, too, and I especially love the one with claw foot bathtub! I love your ideas for your bathroom, and know it is going to be beautiful when it's finished. :) I have our hall bath on our list this year, and I plan to include a claw foot bathtub, if I can find a smaller one! I have been looking, but as long as I find it by summer, I'm good! What are the dimensions of the area you have for your tub? Just curious! :)

I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a fun weekend! :)

Hugs,
Jenni
