HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!
I can't believe it is 2012 already!
I hope you all had a wonderful and safe New Years.
I want to thank everyone for their supportive comments on my last post. I know we all go through this and it is just so wonderful to know that we are not alone. The biggest struggle for me is to not give in to my fears and I know that I will take a few steps backwards, but as long as I am making up that ground and then some, I will be good to go. :)
Also thank you so much for the wishes and prayers for my hubby's surgery this week, he was touched by all your kindness and caring.
As we are waiting for our first snow storm here in Michigan, which is very odd and made for a long break with the kids not being able to go sledding or make a snowman or snowball fights, I wanted to cozy up a little corner in my family room so I went to good 'ole Walmart and picked up four, $4.00 sheer panels and a double rod to hang them on. I think I paid 25 bucks for everything.
Here is what my little corner looked like before.
I loved the opened window but it just needed something.
Growing up I can remember my Grammy's windows and the way that she hung her curtains. They were always soft and so pretty as they draped to frame the window but still let lots of light in.
So I thought that that is how I would do this window.
I LOVE IT!
It covers the window enough to make it cozy yet I can still see out and light can still come in.
I then used twine as a tie back and
attached some very special shells, thank you Sandra. :)
It gives me the beachy/airy/cozy look that I was looking for.
Can something be airy and cozy at the same time? Hhmmmmm. ;)

It's all much more soft and complete now. I like your corner!
Happy new year

Your little corner is lovely - it is so cozy and beachy too, well done Michelle!
How pretty! It is no small task to make things look both warm and beachy, especially during the dreary Michigan winters!
It looks really, really nice, Michelle. I do think it is airy and cozy looking at the same time.
Do you know that storm bypassed us completely again? We have just a trace of snow on the ground here. A very weird winter so far- xo Diana
Beautiful Michelle. I am loving the effect...its always the simplest of touch that brings about a major difference.
Good to see you in all your creative spirits. I would so love that shell thing you hung. Did you make it? If you have, is there a tutorial?
Happy New Year again-love your corner it is very airy! We have spring like temps here, too. Very weird.
love your new panels...they look great!
they really soften up that corner!
It looks great! I love it with the curtain. It makes it so cozy.
Ya gotta love Wally-world for curtains and rods! That's where we got the sheer panels and cafe rods to decorate our pavilion for our daughter's wedding last summer. A lot of impact for not a lot of money!
I know what you mean about loving bare windows ... something about bare windows in winter just SEEMS bare, tho. A quick sheer panel provides a bit of cozy, and your light is still there. Love the shells!
I just love it...makes such a difference. I always say that curtains are like the jewelry of the room and yours are beautiful, and what a deal!!
i LOVE the twine tying it back! so soft and pretty!
I love it too! But I'm noticing that shutter divider- what is hanging from that? Yummm - and how did you attach the shells to the twine? It's always those little details that make me unsure how to proceed w/ a project.
Love the corner, hope Hubby is doing good! Enjoy the snow, I am wishing for some here too!
That looks perfect! How pretty. Ok, you have to tell me what that long thing is thats hanging from the screen/folding door?
I think you just invented "airy and cozy" at the same time, Michelle! Looks so pretty ~ I have some sheers hanging in our bedroom that I'm no totally crazy about so I just may have to try your idea!
Very pretty! Nothing like plain, white, gauzy curtains! It took me forever to find just the right ones that can billow in a spring breeze... since you're expecting snow I hope yours won't be doing any billowing!
Happy New Year,
~Chris
Michelle, that looks lovely. I have wispy sheers in my guest room and have always loved the fact that there is some privacy but you can still view outside. I loved how you draped them from side to side, and the entire spot is so cozy. The table is gorgeous too:)
The curtains are so perfect! I wonder if they would work in my bathroom. I have wide wooden blinds...white and have been looking for something to complete the window! I love these! Happy New year! ♥
Your new curtains really finished off the corner. I love the way you've hung them and stayed true to your style with the twine and shell tiebacks. Lovely idea btw.
Looks so tranquil and beautiful! Happy New Year!
I think it looks cozy. Bare before...cozy now.
In the summer time...I think it would still look nice, instead of bare or cozy, we could call it breezy- {smile}
either way...pretty!
Pat
It looks beautiful! The curtains complete the look. Exactly what our living room needs...new curtains :) Beautiful as always.
It's just the right touch of soft and pretty! Love it!!
It looks perfect! What a good idea to use the double rod! I love your cozy little nook :)
Hello,
Your corner looks so pretty. It looks so soft and cozy.
Thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year!
Claudia
Gorgeous, sis! Here in MI, windows need a little softness, a little more of a warm feeling, to cozy up a home. You have perfected the look! :) I've been spending a lot of time visiting some Swedeish blogs lately (which I'm LUVING), and your sweet corner looks like something right out of one of their homes! ♥
xoxo laurie
Ohhh, I think those curtains are the perfect touch. It does seem cozy, yet airy all at the same time.
We've barely had any snow here either, and let me tell you, after the horror of last winter I'm loving it. A brown winter suits me better than a white one :)
It is lovely, Michelle. The curtain tie back is perfect!
so beautiful michelle!!!

Hey girl. You know that you just seem to have an effortless touch, don't you? Everything you do looks just wonderful.
Tell me how you have those curtains hanging. They look overlapped or something at the top.
Also, I love that lamp behind the chair.
Amazing...as usual.
Hope your husband is doing great! Keep on keeping on, my friend.
PS...I noticed that you have some etsy shops listed on your sidebar. May I ask if you charge people to put those there or do you just do a few of your favorites?
...it can when it is dreamed up by YOU. that's exactly what you achieved--brilliant!

So lovely my friend, as always!
so soft and lovely.
Love your corner, I mean I really do love it. It's so soft and serene. A perfect spot to curl up and watch the snow fall.

So beautiful...love it....you do have the magical touch dear one...hugs for a blessed New Year. xoxoxo
I love how you hung the curtains, Michelle! So whimsical and dream like, I think. :) And that is so unique and clever to add twine and seashells! I will have to remember that, because it is beautiful! {And I do think things can be cozy and airy at the same time, definitely!}
I hope you had a good Tuesday, and that you have a restful night, too! :)
Hugs,
Jenni
Are you on Twitter Michelle?
I always swing
between the open
window look and
the softening and
coziness of drapes.
I think you hit the
right note, Michele!
Sending you hugs
for a joy-FULL, healthy
and Happy New Year!

Thanks for the visit sweet friend!
Absolutely perfect, Michelle!
Really love the window treatment and hope that all is well on the home front.
Michelle,
What a fabulous way to soften the corner! It looks beautful. I am drawn to anything that has a beachy vibe! Hope all is well with your husband! Don't send that snow this way!

Hi Michelle; Gosh, I read your post about the sheers and you sound like me. I did that in my living room a couple of years ago (put sheers up just to have something light and airy up there). I LOVE your tie backs with the twine and sea shells - just perfect. Then I read your post before that about your inner struggles and that along with your music geeez, you actually made me CRY... right before my youngest got off the bus! That hasn't happened in so long. I think we all have these struggles. I feel like time is flying by lately, like the world is spinning too fast and I need to slow it down somehow so that I can catch up! You're a wonderful person, I hope you feel contentment soon. I also hope your husband's surgery went well and that he is recovering fast. Let us know how that goes okay? Take care and thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting (I seem to have lost my 'following' by not posting so much anymore!). Take care of yourself dear friend,
Michelle

Such lovely and important details....
Happy 2012 dearest.

Happy New Year, my friend! Glad things are going well for you and your family. My son has been hoping for a little snow this winter, but I doubt we'll get any. I love the way you hung you curtains and still allowing all that light to shine through.
Pretty pretty. Love your tie backs.
These pictures make me wish for summer so badly! I know it has been a VERY mild winter thus far...but nothing compares to summer (sigh). Beautiful home, Michelle:)
Jessie
Mmmmm...your curtains look so soft and dreamy! I love how they softened up that corner and the light coming in just glows.
I bought some sheers on Amazon before Christmas and still haven't hung them. I need new rods and just haven't gotten around to shopping for them. Yours look so pretty, I'm inspired to get mine up.
Have a lovely day sweet friend. {{hugs}}
