Ruffles!!!!

Hello to you!
I hope you are all doing well.
I just wanted to stop in and show you the ruffled curtain that I made out of Walmart sheets.
I used this tutorial from A boy, a girl and a pug.
Although because I was lazy and the room was starting to become very blue from my frustrations I decided to not add the last two rows.
Shabby right!!??

As you can see from the photo below I need to go back and sew a portion of one of the ruffles back on.
Not sure how I totally missed that, well I am sure how but, you know. :)

I needed to put a curtain here to hide this!!
AAHHHHHH!!!!!
The old dirty carpet, which I did really love, and the fun sun yellow that the room used to be.
The stairway will have to wait until later.
Also the bonus room gets really cold in the winter and the cold air blows down into the house so it makes the kitchen area cold so the curtain blocks the air and it just looks pretty. :)

I also finished the cedar chest.
This is a very special piece to me, it was my Grammy and Papa's and is one of the few things that I have left from their home.
My hubby stripped it and stained it 15 years ago and it was in our bedroom for a long time.
I gave it another chapter in it's life and love it all painted and shabbied up.

So that is where I am.
It is rainy this week so I am up there working on the slip cover for the couch thingy and I even got all my mess cleaned up.
Ok, I put the mess in the basement but I did manage to donate and trash some things. :)
I organized the cedar chest and it holds quite a bit of stuff.

Have a wonderful week!!

Floors and a Mess

So last weekend I finished the bonus room floor.  I really like it for being plywood but it was a lot of work that I hope to not have to do in a long long time.  :)

If you don't recall what I did I first painted the sub flooring a light gray, Smooth Stone from Gliddon.
I then used a wood graining tool, white paint and a glaze to make grains into the paint.
I then went over all of that with a stain called Sun Bleached.
WHEW!
It is hard to see but hopefully you can kind of get the idea.
I would show you the whole floor but you will see why I didn't at the end of this post.  :)

Of course certain someone's have to be in the picture.

With the floors done I started on the furniture that I planned to use.
I had a kitchen island from Crate and Barrell that I purchased a long time ago that was too big for our kitchen.  I used it in my previous craft room but decided that I would try to make it a bit prettier.

I picked up Annie Sloan Coco and painted it.
It is a really pretty brownish-gray
(again, hard to see with my amazing photography skills)

It wasn't bad but it wasn't fitting into my vision so I picked up some dark stain and stained the top.

Well needless to say that sucked!
I mean it is really pretty and I like how it turned out, but it was even farther from my vision so I resorted to my  backup plan.
I stole the desk from my daughters room.
All she uses it for is to gather junk that she says she needs.
I will try to find a new desk for her with drawers to hide everything. :)

SO
here is where I am.....

I feel like I am no further from the last time I posted about this room but I am plugging away.
My goal is to get it finished before Thanksgiving.
Crossing my fingers and toes on that one!

I also want to thank you for all your wonderful comments, emails and friendship.
I am sorry if I don't get back to everyone on each post, time seems to go so quickly these days.
Please know that I read and LOVE all your comments.

Hugs!!!

Ideas for the Bonus Room

Happy Monday my friends!
It was a busy weekend with sports and we weren't home hardly at all and I have lots to do,
BUT
 instead I am dreaming.
I have finished the wood graining process of the floor in my bonus room and now I have to stain and then put the trim up..crossing fingers that I can do that this week.

Here are some inspiration photos from Pinterest that I am loving for that room.
I would like something cozy, warm and peaceful.
Maybe a little on the romantic side too, we will see.
I love so many things and since my home is mainly sea-inspired I am thinking of taking this room in a bit of a different direction.

I have gathered some lovelies already and need to paint and sew some goodies as well.

Here is the color scheme that I am aiming for.

I love the lights with the shears!!

I have something similar to this, not as cool as a real one though.

Pinned Image

I have started to make a ruffled panel for the doorway.  We need something to cover the opening because in the winter the cool air comes down into the kitchen and makes it COLD!

Would love a rug like this.

I have my eye on a shabby chic floor lamp but not sure I want to spend the money.  They have some at Target and Meijer's that I can paint, but I want a ruffle shade for sure....love these!

So anyway, that is what is on my brain this week.
Now I guess I have to go clean and start staining the floor.

Have a wonderful Monday!!!

More Fall Fun and Floor Update

Hello there!!
I have missed you all but had a great week last week unplugging for a bit.
It was so nice here so we took advantage of the weather and played outside.
I really do not like raking leaves but watching the boy play in them was so fun, he just makes me laugh.

I also got a little bit of time to work on the bonus room floor.
Here are a couple photos of the wood graining process so far.

It is turning out ok for the most part but like I had said earlier, it is difficult to get a nice wood look when the plywood is rough and uneven.
BUT
I love the shabbiness of it so I am good with it.

I have also decided to add another process to it, not sure why I do this to myself.
I found a stain called Sunbleached at Lowes and I love it!
I played around with it on my sample board and it really warmed up the wood so I am going to apply that over top the stain like you see above in the corner there.
I will then sand some of the areas to get a more warn look.
Well at least that is what I have in my mind as of now.

Here is how the whole room looks so far.
It is hard to see the floors but I am about a little over half way done with the graining.
I didn't fill the lines where the boards meet cause, well, I am lazy. I would tell you that it looks more shabby that way but that really isn't the case. :)
I am hoping with a few area rugs that it won't be so bad.

The weather has turned cooler and windy here so this is my goal for this week.

Have a wonderful week!!

Huh.....

...that is how I feel today.
You know, just......huh.
Not bad, not good.
Not sure why, just one of those days I guess.
Last week was a long week with my brother in law in the hospital (he is home now and doing very well, thank you, thank you for all your thoughts and prayers) and then my little man was pretty sick all week long.
He is feeling much better now and back his naughty little self.
I guess he couldn't have picked a better week to be sick, it rained here the entire week and was cold which made it for good snuggle weather.

So today it was back to somewhat normal.
I played around with my blog a bit.
Changed my header and a few other things.
I also added piano music.
I love piano music, especially in the fall by the fire, so cozy and relaxing.
I hope you enjoy it, if not you can pause it, no worries. :)

I Did laundry.
Ran a few errands, nothing special.

I think what I was really doing was procrastinating.

Remember I showed you this room last post?

Well here is what it looks like now.

I have the wall all painted and the floor ready to be painted.

But I am afraid.

I looked at a ton of beautiful inspirations this weekend for the direction I want to go with this room, like

this

or maybe this,

or perhaps this

I really love the farmhouse/romantic/industrial look and I want something a little but different from the rest of the house.
Don't worry, I will still add a few of my favorite beachy things. :)

I also played with the flooring and how I wanted to go about painting it.
I picked up some sample colors and a wood grain tool and went at it.

And then after I spotted a piece of wood that I had painted with my living room trim color and tried a white glaze over the top and
LOVED IT!

This is what I am going to attempt to do to the plywood floor.
(Good thing I bought all the sample paints just to use what I already had, UGH!)

So here I go.
If you hear a loud scream it will probably be me trying to figure out how to use the wood grain tool on a large floor without smearing it and messing it all up.
I think I am going to work in sections and see how that goes.

I will be back soon!

Have a great week!

Mantel Planks

Since we did the fireplace on Sunday and it went rather quickly I thought that while I had a few seconds I would show you how it came out. I want to thank you for all your visits and comments about my family room redo and hopefully I am not boring you with this project and hopefully I will show you the ENTIRE room one day! :)

Anyway, I have always loved the plank walls that I see in old cottages and homes and even faked one in my kitchen that you can see here if you have a minute.
Knowing that hubby was not up to doing another wall again, especially after putting in the floors and everything else that he has been so graciously helping me with, I decided that just a partial plank wall will do, and what better spot for one than over the fireplace.

Before:

After:

It was pretty easy to do, well, it looked pretty easy to do since I observed most of the time.
We, or he, just cut the boards to length, trimmed the top and bottom boards so they looked even and then nailed them up!
I then slapped on some leftover paint and hung up my treasures.

I love how it turned out and it adds another, what I feel, beachy texture to the room and makes the fireplace seem a bit more interesting.

The 'old' fishing net I got at TJ Maxx along with the bigger sand bird.
The starfish and beach grass I shopped from the house.

But see the little sand bird?

Isn't he cute?!
My friend Anita from Going A Little Coastal asked me were I had picked up the larger bird. I told her where and mentioned that it would have been great if they had different sizes.
WELL,
being the sweet gal that she is, when she picked up her sand bird she told me that there were indeed different sizes and brought home this little guy to send to me!!! :)

I love him!

She also sent me this amazing smelling candle that smells like the sea!!

Thank you SO much again Anita, he is perfect with his big brother!!! :)

This week in between taxing the kids around I am tackling this mess!

This would be our bonus room or grave yard of all things not needed at the time.
My goal is to make it a tropical sitting room for the kids.

UGH!!!

I will be back Thursday to join the adorable Sarah from Modern Country Style and her
DEFINE YOUR BLOG linky party!

Click on the bottom above to find out what it is all about!

HUGS!!
