Window Treatment

Hello again!
I wanted to pop in quickly to show you the window treatment for my daughters room.
Things are going kind of slow in here, but bit by bit I am getting things done!
The major parts are completed now it is just adding all the little details.

I also had to stop work on the room because the rest of my house looked like this....

(I must note that the little kitty on the headboard is the only thing that I have left that my Grammy gave me, it is old, it is beaten but I can't stand to part with it)

It is amazing that when you concentrate on one room that the rest of the rooms suffer!
So, I cleaned and did laundry all day yesterday, not that you needed to know, but you are my friends so I am sharing! :)

Here is the window treatment....

(sorry about the picture, no sun just the gleam of snow)

I took down the dark pink curtains, put up the shutters,
(I have had these forever and they have seen every room in the house but I think that they have found a permanent home)
hung the sheers at the level of the chair rail and hung
the old oar where the pink curtains were.

I really like it and was shocked that my daughter did too!
She loved those dark pink curtains but they made her room so dark! I told her she must be part vampire because she would never open them to get light in.
She didn't think I was funny...

I think those shutters have found their permanent home, too, Michelle! They definitely look like they belong on that window! Just gorgeous!

I think I heard angels singing when I saw that last photo! I just love the soft curtains and the aged oar. Oh it is gorgeous! I am so glad your daughter likes it otherwise I might have had to come move in myself ;)
As for the rest of the house.....that is the house of a true DIYer. Be proud!
BTW, love those starfish propped on top of your wainscotting!

I love the way the curtain is dropped. It does not take away from the attraction of the oar.

Loving in a constant state of disaster has been my life for the last 2 years and a year prior to this one in another house...

I hate feeling guilty for the mess, but I say to hubby well which one do you want me to do? Make a kitchen, paint a wall or pick up the house? Because what I do takes it off his shoulders he can bear with the mess.

Cassie @ Primitive & Proper said...

it looks so light and airy and pretty! and yes0 the rest of the house always suffer when oyu have kids running around while you try to work in one area! :)

Michelle, I love it! Do you know I have an oar sitting in my closet waiting for me to do something with it? I love what you've done, and the curtains are so pretty and sheer. Very Beachy. xoxo tami

I love it Michelle! I know it's been said before but it looks so pretty and airy so springlike. Love the oar on top. I have one that I'm still trying to figure out what to do with. I just stand it in the corner but this is a great idea.
Oh and the mess! I try to keep mine in a corner, but I have paint cans almost everywhere! Need to clean today as well!
Thanks for sharing my friend.

L.O.V.E. the window treatments,so pretty and fun. And don't worry, your house doesn't look messy or dirty, it just looks like decorating command central! But I know what you mean, it happens to me whenever I do a project!

Have a great one! Laura

Oh so good to see your messy house. Mine looks just like that! I love the window treatment. I wish I had that oar. I had found one at an estate sale and someone grabbed it right before me. I should have knocked her down to get to it first.

D&G Stories said...

Beautiful! I would never think of hanging the sheers at that level, but it looks great. Shutters, sheers, oar - perfect combo!

Oh...and love the house pictures. When I am knee deep in a project, my house looks like that too!!

The window's treatment is lovely, Michelle; perhaps an seaplane propeller for the little guy's room :-) Take advantage of that beautiful light for some vignettes!

Vanessa said...

You just made me feel SOOOOO much better by posting those first few pics! LOL! I think we all need to keep it real like that more often here in blogland. That being said, I am in love with your daughter's window treatment(s)! I mean, seriously, it looks so light and bright and I really think that you are creating a space for her that not only works now at this age but one she can grow into as well. Charming, soothing, and lovely! Great job friend!

I am just now getting caught up with all my bloggy friends :( I've been waaay to busy and feel so guilty. Your projects look amazing. My house looks like that right now- I always admire you brave souls who can post pics! :) It's nice to know there are other people like me!!
My daughter would leave her roller shade down permanently if I didn't pull it up every day or get after her to do it. Maybe it's a kid thing?? ;)

Ooh Michelle, I love her curtains! So light and airy! I bet they let in a lot of light. The oar above her window is a perfect addition.

Now this makes me cross. How is it, that even when you have things on the floor, htat your house *still* looks homely and warm and lovely....?

The oar and the shutters are PERFECT!

Brillant!!!!! I am in awe. I would never ever have thought to do such a thing. Oh my goodness I just love this. Can I share your creation on my blog with link to YOU???

I also have to tell you even with a layer of mess your home is charming. Your bedroom with that Grammy kitty hanging on the bedpost is so cozy coastal cottagie!!! I like, I like. And I saw you have a huge white star like mine. Wee wee. Mine was orginally pale blue but I painted it white(which you probably remember)and I like it so much better white. Did you paint yours white too? I can't wait to see a view of the completed room with THAT window now done. Please show us more. ox kerrie

Sooo cute!!!! You did a fabulous job!! It looks so light and breezy! I totally know what you mean about the rest of the house falling apart!! If the house is too clean it's a sure sign that I need to get busy on a project.
I can't wait to see this room all done!!
Hope you have a great weekend!

Hello there!

Oh girl, I can see this window treatment in a magazine. Seriously, that good! Love what you did with the oar and the shutters couldn't be more perfetct! LOVE IT! Isn't it funny how every other room in the house suffers while you have a project going? My sunroom and upstairs landing have become a dumping ground. Good to see that you have the same thing going at your house. WHat a smile it put on my face.

I can't wait to see Addy's room all "purty"!

I love what you did with the window Michelle, it looks wonderful! But I love even more the fact that you shared with us what a home really looks like when you're knee deep in renovations! Don't you dare ever part with that sweet kitty your Grammy gave you, I love that you keep it close by!

Gorgeous. I love it. I really love the shutters. I am looking for just that size for my son's room. So light and airy looking. And I so appreciate the rest of the house! That is happening here as I am working on the living room. Took my bedside table to that room and now I have all my junk on the floor next to my bed. Super awesome!

Loving what you've done with the airy, light feel. Love those sheers with the shutters. I have to comment on the fact that when you work on one project the whole house goes to pot...I thought that was just me :)

Good evening beautiful!

Oh, here we are, approaching the end of one of the coldest months in years for most of us! Are you loving decorating? It has been so fun to see your projects from that fabulous bed for your daughter to your window treatments. We are slowly, VERY slowly making some progress with our painting and then once the electrician comes (I HOPE NEXT WEEK) then we are ready to PLAY and decorate! I am debating whether or not to share some photos that are IN is going to take MONTHS for us to have it just the way we want it, but I am just not sure about my photography!

You have served as an inspiration as well as a wonderful friend, always so encouraging!

I send you warm wishes for a magnificent weekend of FUN!!!

The window looks fantastic, Michelle! Perfectly beachy.
I am anxious to meet up at the Allegan Market this summer. Have you ever been there?
Enjoy your weekend, in your clean house.

Yes I was yelling out your name :)
I have to say first of all you are such a brave soul to work around your mess and ontop of it post it :) I would love to be a relaxed as you :)

I really love the softness your daughters window treatment turned out and the love of watter is so captured. The kitchen is so sweet and i just know I would enjoy a cup of tea with you in your state of having to tidy up, catch your breath and on to the next project.

The floppy stuffed kitty is something I would cherish as well :) and it would find a place in my home as well. So I can see why you cannot part with it. In fact it adds to the charm of things.

Thank you for being sooooo! you and showing us that women can be real!!!

Thank you for your beautiful comment on my soulful chest, it would fit right in with your design style.

Have a beautiful inspiring weekend.

I love the look Michelle! I understand about the rest of the house suffering. I've been sick this week, and it looks like a tornado swept through while I was resting :-)
Have a wonderful weekend!

Girl, you have no idea how awesome it was to see your house messy, lol, like usual, it's a relief to see others, even you have the same issues as me. I remember when you were working on your kitchen and we were laughing how the rest of the house had to suffer through cereal, pizza, and leftovers during project time,,, lol,,,

My house gets like this, even if I take a day to cook a decent lunch or dinner, lol, so you can imagine, anything else.

Everything in your daughters room looks fantastic so far, love the window treatment. She's super lucky, and the cat your granny gave you is PRECIOUS,,, I have a few things like that, no matter what they look like, I keep them close to my heart, and would not dream of parting with them.

Hugs Michelle, I love ya, and you my friend, have some WONDERFUL blog friends, who LOVE you too, just look at how many people comment on EVERYTHING you post, you rule girl. Your blog is refreshing, and like a vacation for me, and clearly for everyone else.

Keep up all the good work, and lucky you, your house is now clean, mine is still in the process, as usual, NEVER EVER EVER done.

Bella :)

Well there missy , you have done it again! Nice job. When you are as busy as you have been, the house is supposed to look like that! :-)

Hi Michelle, I'm cracking up over the photos of your house -- how is it that chaos can develop practically overnight? My house looks like that (except when I'm taking pictures...) and its only my husband and me! (although three birds can add their share of mess...) The new curtains are so lovely, and the snow light coming through really shows them off. And love the oar!

Pamela said...

Yes, I hate that feeling of accomplishment but then ya look around at everything else. Love the new window treatment!!
