So last weekend I finished the bonus room floor. I really like it for being plywood but it was a lot of work that I hope to not have to do in a long long time. :)
If you don't recall what I did I first painted the sub flooring a light gray, Smooth Stone from Gliddon.
I then used a wood graining tool, white paint and a glaze to make grains into the paint.
I then went over all of that with a stain called Sun Bleached.
WHEW!
It is hard to see but hopefully you can kind of get the idea.
I would show you the whole floor but you will see why I didn't at the end of this post. :)
Of course certain someone's have to be in the picture.
With the floors done I started on the furniture that I planned to use.
I had a kitchen island from Crate and Barrell that I purchased a long time ago that was too big for our kitchen. I used it in my previous craft room but decided that I would try to make it a bit prettier.
I picked up Annie Sloan Coco and painted it.
It is a really pretty brownish-gray
(again, hard to see with my amazing photography skills)
It wasn't bad but it wasn't fitting into my vision so I picked up some dark stain and stained the top.
Well needless to say that sucked!
I mean it is really pretty and I like how it turned out, but it was even farther from my vision so I resorted to my backup plan.
I stole the desk from my daughters room.
All she uses it for is to gather junk that she says she needs.
I will try to find a new desk for her with drawers to hide everything. :)
SO
here is where I am.....
I feel like I am no further from the last time I posted about this room but I am plugging away.
My goal is to get it finished before Thanksgiving.
Crossing my fingers and toes on that one!
I also want to thank you for all your wonderful comments, emails and friendship.
I am sorry if I don't get back to everyone on each post, time seems to go so quickly these days.
Please know that I read and LOVE all your comments.
Hugs!!!

Up early, I see! Hope your day is wonderful even if your projects aren't finished!
Don't you hate when you spend so much time on a piece & then its not what you wanted?! Uggh...I have done that so many times & its so aggravating! I think that piece turned out beautiful, but I understand that it may not be the look you were going for! The floors are looking lovely though!:) The room will come together in time...try not to worry about it!! Hope you have a great day!!
the floor looks beautiful michelle!!

The floor's coming along real well michelle. Infact im in love with the floor. its just perfect...im envisioning some ruffles here...white, pure ruffles..somewhere! Maybe?
Oh hi, lens friendly. Wussup? :) Got a nosy retriever meself!
Oh my Michelle! You are working so hard... And the floor is grand. I would have never atempted such a feat. But you did great. Proud of you as always!
It already looks so good! There is something so inspiring about this project - you surely get it done in time! Have a lovely day!
We all totally understand the 'dance' that we have to do to get a finished space, and I feel your pain. It will come together, at the last minute no doubt, and you will love the results. The time between then and now will probably make you want to tear your hair out ... which will make the 'finished' even sweeter.
WOW Michelle the floors turned out so awesome!! Isn't it funny how the projects we start always seem to take longer than we expect - oh well they are totally worth it in the end :).
oh i am loving the floors! they are beautiful!!!!
and glad plan b worked for you. :)
Lookin good so far. Take your time you will get there by Thanksgiving.
Wow, Michelle, the floors look great! That's too bad about the island. I've had that happen to me many times...I have some great vision and then it's kind of a let down when it doesn't come together the way I hope. Anyway, I know the room is going to be beautiful, I can't wait to see it all done :)
Hang in there, Michelle!

Wow, lots of stuff in the works!
Knowing you it will be finished early ;)
Can't wait to see the island when it's done. I know how you feel, I've slipped far from a vision or two in my day., Still, paint can be repainted, I always save things and try later when I'm feeling more creative. hugs tami
Love how the floor turned out. And I have to laugh at your final shot... sometimes I feel that's my life!

Michelle....sometimes in the middle of a project, I feel like I am never going to finish either :) The floors turned out beautiful!
WOW, it is really coming along...I know you don't feel that way but I see progress! Love that ASCP color!
The floor looks fantastic. I'm sure it was a ton of work but well worth it that's for sure. I like the desk you stole from your daughter. My son doesn't use his desk much either. He's usually just on his bed with his laptop. Why did I bother to get it?
The floor looks great and you've worked so hard! It does take a long time to get things the way you want them...but it will be worth it! Hugs! ♥
Loving the look of the floor, Michelle. Don't ya hate that mess before everything is put in it's place? I sure do! I can tell you've done a ton of stuff and it will look wonderful when you are done. Keeping fingers & toes crossed.
Beach hugs,
Marie

You have put in some hard work lady! Love the floors! I'm scratching my head about the crate and barrel table b/c it is so pretty to me. But you have a knack for putting it all together so I'm sure whatever you come up with is going to look stunning. Can't wait to see it all finished!
LOL I just love how our furry babies always end up in our photos! ;) I think your new space is going to turn out wonderful Michelle! I love the desk you got back from your daughters room! xoxo Rachel
Even though you think it isn't worthy of showing us, I think it looks amazing and your have made huge strides towards getting it done! Those floors look incredible and I love the desk, but I liked the island too!
And I hear ya about not being able to reply to anyone these days...there just aren't enough hours in the day!
Kat :)
Oh Michelle can I please pretty please move in on your floors of beauty, so simple yet so breathtakingly perfectly imperfect floors to love!
I love the simple subflooring look to them taking on a look of pale and interesting, making a simple life oh so big!
Thank you for sharing your beauty and inspiring something in all of us...Thank you for your faithful visits that encourage what I love to do and create.
Take this weekend to be inspired with all the calm you create over here.

The floor looks so lovely hunny!
What a gorgous job you did on it..it must have taken a lot of work and patience!
I love how the room is coming along and I know it'll be just perfect.
Both of those desks are beautiful!
If you think thats a mess you should see my computer room right now! Lol

All my love,

I think the floors look amazing.
The desk from your daughter's room looks like it will be perfect for the space.
Half way through a project is always the "messy time" in my mind. Hang in there girl. The floors are looking fabulous and was probably the most time consuming part of the the whole room. Very soon your going to have a room that you love and all this worrying about how long it took to get it done will no longer matter.
You crack me up Michelle! It always has to get worse before it gets better right? :-) I thought that first piece looked pretty good but I do understand if it doesn't quite match your vision for the room. I love that you snatched your daughter's desk! LOL! The floors look absolutely incredible and I can totally see where you are headed with this space. It will be beautiful!
Vanessa
The floors look great, I see you mastered that tool. Things are changing here in our life so I doubt I will get to do my floors this year but the changes are not unwelcome. I am sure this space will come together, just remember to enjoy the process.
Awww...Michele, sorry your table didn't turn out as planned, although it is very cool with those mesh shelves! I too have had plenty of projects fail. No doubt you will find the perfect place and use for it in the future.
Don't worry about not being able to return every comment. Take encouragement from them to keep doing what you're doing...being a wonderful wife & mommy, a great blogging friend, and an inspiration to us all!
well, the floor (what we can see) looks fantastic! and I bet you'll have everything knocked into shape before you know it.. it always looks the worst when you're putting the furnishings together. But as long as you have that sweet big eyed doggie in the room, it'll be wonderful!
Wow, Michelle, so many work to do, yet a lot already done.. and your projects are always great.
Love your blog and home, you know!
hugs

Floors look amazing. How lucky you are to have a basement and a rec room. American houses are fantastic compared to Austalian ones.
Have a great weekend

I like the island done in the ASCP.
Just do little bits at a time, and the room will be ready for the holidays.

WAIT!!!!!! I MISSED THIS POST???????
Dearest one, FABULOUS JOB ON THE FLOORSSSSSSS!!! Oh my goodness, whenever I think of paint, I think of you. Today I painted a great French chair in GRAY and I am so excited.
Yes dearest, looking up always helps us with our attitude, with remembering that we are not alone and most of all....to look up at HIM.
Enjoy a great week of CREATIVE FUN!!! Anita
You have been quite busy! Love the floor. Have a great week!
-Shelley
Oh my goodness, it's looking so fabulous!!! So much work but so worth it!!!! I've been good, just so busy with the kids! Sounds like you are doing great, have a wonderful new week :)
XO
your floor looks great, and i love that eyeball helping you :)
The floors turned out great. I really like that kitchen island with the mesh shelves, but I totally agree with you on the color. The dark brown top doesn't look quite right to me. I do like the soft brown of the lower section tho. Can you cover the top with an oil cloth? Something with a cute design or print? What color are your walls?
Hello sweet friend!
I was so excited when the title of your post popped up "floors"! I was dying to see them, and think they look gorgeous! You did such a WONDERFUL job on them, and what a lot of work it was for you! I hear you, truly, on not wanting to do it again any time soon! I felt just like that when I painted my kitchen floor! But now you can look at it, and think how beautiful it is! Yea! I also love the candid shot of the work in progress! It is real and honest and made me smile! :) I can't wait to see how the furniture turns out!
I hope your weekend was a good one, and that you have a beautiful Monday!
Blessings,
Jenni
The floor looks beautiful! Looking forward to the reveal! :)

Oh how wonderful, hard work, but it's looking sooo good!!! Thank you so much for showing us all what's going on. Loved puppy's "gotta be in the middle of everything" picture!
Have a happy week!!
Sorry - sitting here at my desk laughing at you! Love your cute puppy. Hang in there, it will all get done.

The floors look amazing! Who knew plywood could look so good? Right now my future office space is looking pretty similar with stuff from every part of the house. Can't wait to see your big reveal.
Goodness Michelle, you have been so busy! Your floors turned out great! I knew they would be beautiful! :) I can imagine it feels overwhelming at times and that you'll never finish, but take it easy my friend and just do a little at a time(easier said than done, right)!! You'll be enjoying the fruits of your labor in no time!!!
I love the floor! This is so inspiring!! Maybe know I will tackle my attic???
