Blog Cleanup!

Hello my dearies!
How are you this 5th day into the new year?

Today is my dad's birthday so I would like to do a shout out to him:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!!
I Love you!

I have seen that a lot of you have got bitten by the "Winter/Early Spring Cleaning Bug"

All I can say is that it feels good to get organized!

I have also noticed that some of you are "cleaning" up your blog or just rearranging and making new headers, sidebars and such.

As you can see from mine, I have been working slowly on that as well and to help you out I wanted to point out a couple blogs that have given some great advice for the technical side of blogging as well as the emotional side, so to speak.

Kristin at My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia posted some great tips on adding, changing and sprucing up your blog a bit as well as a link to Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors and her post about blogging etiquette.

Kat over at Low Tide High Style posted about the things that she has learned about blogging on a more personal side and has passed some of those on as well.

These wonderful ladies give great advice and if you have not seen their blogs yet, they are a must and they are very helpful! :)

I have purchased the wood for my daughters headbaord and I think that I am going with this one:

I really like star fish and I think that I can do those....I think...

I will be busy measuring, measuring again and probably again and cutting and hammering today and tomorrow.

Hopefully everything goes as I see it in my head and my piece of paper....hopefully...

Getting the lumber was interesting, lets just say you should not go to a home improvement store with a 5-year-old boy who likes to zoom on the lumber carts and hide in the isles and in between the wood while you are trying to find the things that you need.

Needless to say I picked out wood, had the nice man cut it for me, went to pay and when the nice lady told me $95.97 I about had another heart attack!!

Apparently poplar is priced per foot, NOT per board!! Oh I felt so bad, but there was no way I was spending that amount on wood, I would have purchased the shutters in the above photo first.
So I apologized about 100 times and told her that I thought it was per board. She was super nice and told me that that was fine, they will sell it.

But you may see this sign hanging in Home Depot near the lumber department!

Luckily I went to Lowes this morning, kid free, and got what I needed!

Until next time!!

LOL! you are too funny!! yes, a kid at the lumber yard is always a challenge! :) I like your plan, it's beautiful. I think I would have fainted too, hearing that price!! Poplar is very expensive, now I know why. I didn't know it was by the foot, I just thought it was because it was a nice clear wood! good luck on your project, looks like fun!

Looks really great! I need to spruce some things up on my blog but I fear losing everything :)

oooh yeah...that will be a fun project. Love the style and the color of the headboard. I've been wanting to do something like that using boards and making it a dining table customized to my small dining space. I just need a tutorial on how to do it ;-)
Looking forward to seeing the final product of your lil girl's bedroom.

LOL, I can so picture that happening, and to tell you honestly I about had a heart attack when I read you were going to spend $95.00 on that, I was like come on Michelle, no way, this is DIY, girl, suppose to be more affordable than buying it made, lol. Whew, glad to see I wasn't the only one freaking about that, and I've so been there with the kiddos, and HATE it more than anything. Now my little guy throws tantrums if we go near ANY store because his new thing is he wants gum. ERGHHH, there is always something , I tell you.

Lovin the new design, and have already checked out Lily Puff, THANKS to you, and think I might just go grab me one of these stretch layouts too, I love it. And btw, I was totally eying this exact one, but since you already have it, I may do something different, he he.

I wondered why I saw the "Beware" poster with your picture at HD, today! I mean it's a great profile and all...LOL! I would have done the same thing. I don't like when things are priced in contractors terms. They should just say, this board is gonna cost you :)I can't wait to see how the headboard turns out! Happy Birthday to your dad!

Have a super day! xxx

Is it true that you *asked* them to put up that photo all over their store because you look so gorgeous in it? Well, Michelle, is it true?!!!

The headboard potential looks beautiful. I bet your daughter will be over the moon when she sees what you've made.

Make sure you don't cut it wonkily. :-)

LOL! I bet your picture with a slash is at every check out! Funny! I know how it is going to a home improvement (or any store...) with a little one or 2. It's always an adventure!

Thanks for posting the blog links on how to make our blogs better than ever. I'll have to check them out.

I bet they let you come back. Your too sweet to ban from Home Depot. I have looked at trim before and thought it was per piece until I studied the price a little more and realize it was per foot. What kind of wood did you end up with? I can't wait to see it all. Happy Birthday to your dad.

When I saw these headboards on Jane's site (she has a palm tree one too), I was wondering how these could be cut out so nicely without some special tool. Now, you're going to show us!!! Right?!

Can't wait to see the headboard. And I've done the same thing at Home Depot. Picked up some molding and at the checkout realized that it was not nearly as cheap as I thought.

Teeeheee, I just love that last picture....HOME DEPOT HAS BANNED US FROM THE PREMISES AS WELL! When we were doing our OWN plumbing, we were there everyday, at least 3 times per day. It was a hoot!

Oh dearest Michelle, you are so kind to come by again, and it is so wonderful to start the new year with you. May peace reign in your home and heart!!!

This sounds like something that would happen to me. Good grief, I would have panicked! Glad they let you put it back. Hmmm, I wonder if it's in the clearance bin now? I can't wait to see how you do this. I think it's adorable. I can't do it for my son but maybe my guest room!
