We Love You Faithful Friend

Friday morning we said goodbye to our faithful friend and companion for 13 1/2 years,
Rodman.

I have to say for never having a dog growing up and not knowing what to expect with him, he was the best dog!

He never complained or had a bad thing to say to anyone.

He loved unconditionally and I know that he showed us more love than we probably did in return. He was loyal and amazingly gentle for being 105lbs.
He was pretty sure he was a lap dog.

He loved the kids and he loved life and even though his spirit was still alive and wanting so hard to go out and play, his body was just not able to keep up anymore.

He could longer get up without help and since his fall last week, each day we see him struggle to get around. It was not fair to him to have to struggle every day and there was nothing more that we could do for him to keep him comfortable.
He is running and jumping and barking at those squirrel now, or perhaps running and diving into the snow like he loved to do.
Either way he is free to run and do as dogs do free of pain and injury.

We miss him so much and we know that he has a spot in our hearts that will live forever.

My little man has also come down with pneumonia. He is doing good but Friday was not a good at all.
We will be ok but I am taking a bit of a break to be with family, grieve and make my little man feel better.
I will see you soon.

Hi Michelle, Thanks for sharing Rodman with us. I totally understand what you are going through as we had our White German Shepard, Reggie, for 15 years and had to put him down for similar reasons. These animals, without much effort on their part, quickly become a member of the family and are loved as such. Our Reg has been gone since November and I still miss him.
Prayers for a speedy recovery for your lil' guy and that you all heal quickly from your loss.
Peace to you.

Michelle you know how much it saddens me to know what you are going through! You and I have talked about this many times and you gave me such love and support when we lost Kylee just a few weeks ago. Rodman had a wonderful life with you and your family, and I know he will never be far from you either in your thoughts or in your heart.

I'm also sorry to hear that your son has pneumonia! Poor guy, I hope he is resting and will be back to feeling 100% very soon.

Take all the time you want, you have been in need of a break for awhile now. And if there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to call me!

I´m so sorry - as you know I´m a dog lover and I´ve had to say goodbye to two dogs in my life - it´s awful. Still; it´s something we have to do when we see that they are not themselves anymore, so it was a good decision to make for you - he´ll rest now.

I hope your little one gets better soon, hugs!

Oh Michelle, Rodman is just beautiful, and he is surely doing all the things you wished for him, now. I have never had to deal with a sick pet, or dying pet before, but I've had a few that just went missing. I've certainly never really had a dog to love before, but I can only imagine they are absolutely a HUGE part of the family, and he was greatly loved and very missed.

I'm sorry girl, and also your little guy getting sick just as the weather turns beautiful, whats up with that, :) Mine got sick last week too, thankfully getting better. All they really need is MOMMY medicine, and plenty of it.

Hugs, Bella :)

I'm so sorry for your loss :( It's always the worst to loose a pet and a lot of people just don't understand why one would be so upset over it.
There's little someone can say to make anyone feel better about a loss but he had a long and wonderful life with you and it's always a hard decision to make since they can't actually speak to us, but even though he might have still had the spirit it was for the best and he'll be with you always now.

I am so very sorry, there are no words at a time like this to comfort you, I wish there were. I know your pain, we had to let go of our oldest dog almost three years ago, and you never forget them, never! His name was Montana, and he was a gentle soul, and protected my daugther as she was growing up. Everyone's pets are so special to them, and we hurt in our own way. All I can do is say, I hope God helps ease your pain, and keep those beautiful memories alive. Stay strong!

THE LAST BATTLE

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
