Alright girlies, get your minds out of the gutter this post is about a promise to a little girl, my little girl.
For about five years now we having been having issues with my daughter sleeping at night. it occurs from about August to November each year, not sure why but so far we have come to the conclusion that it is the change into a new grade and a new year of school beginning. She is a creature of habit and when her schedule is changed it is sometimes hard for her to adjust. From that point things usually spiral out of control. I won't bore you with the details but we have tried very hard to ease her tensions and worries with not much success.
So I offered up a deal.
I told her that if she made a real effort to help us help her I would redo her bedroom.
She really liked that idea, quickly stating that she would like to keep it her beach theme (like mother like daughter) but just a little different.
I told her of course!
So today I scanned through some pictures of bedrooms that I think that she might like.
This is currently the bedding that she has from Pottery Barn Kids. I still really like it and so does she so I think that we would keep it.
Pottery Barn Kids
(I know that I could have taken a picture of her room now but I was lazy)
I would love the surfboard in her room so I have been keeping my eye out for one and I love the lights that hang above the bed as well.
This is a little too much pink for her, she will be 13 in a couple months and as much as I love all the pink, I think that she is past that a bit so I will out the blues and greens from the bedding.
A huge problem that we have is we have nowhere for her and her friend to sleep when she has sleep overs. She has laminate floors and so does the rest of our house, not very comfy to sleep on.
I really like the idea of the way the beds are in the pic below. They would be a great spot to sit during the day and when she has a friend over they would have a comfy place to sleep!
Her room is not very big so there is not enough room for her bed, dressers, bookshelves and a desk. I like the idea of a small table for the nightstand. It can double as a writing/computer table (although it would need a drawer to put all her junk in) This room is very soft and calming, something that might help her sleep.
This is my favorite room!! I love everything about it! The walls, the ceiling, the angles! I also love the little metal basket/locker things on the wall. I will be keeping my other eye for that!

I hope you find everything you need for her room. I am excited to see the redo. I know you will make it great. Thanks for asking about my husband. Monday was not good at all, but he is better now.
Wow Michelle, any one of those would be perfect for your daughter and hopefully induce sweet dreams!
I hope she has better luck with her sleep and that you are able to find all the wonderful items you want to use in her room!

What beautiful inspiration pictures. When I did my son's room, I took something from several pictures. It looks like you have a really good idea of what you want. Go for it! Whatever you do will be wonderful!
Sorry your daughter is having trouble sleeping. That is never fun. I hope she will soon be snoozing through the night!
All of these rooms are so sweet..
love the beachy one, and the last one is so cute!
She is going to be one very happy girl by the time you have finished with it Michelle!
I know you'll do a wonderful job on it!
Hope she has many sweet dreams in her new room...
In friendship,

There are so many things I like in all of the rooms. I don't know how you are going to narrow this all down! I love the colors in her bedding so that is a great place to start. I've seen lights like those at either HD or Lowes. Not exactly but similar. Or try lampsplus.com
We are actually in the process of doing my almost 10 year old daughters room over as well. I like your choices. She actually has been pulling ideas out of mags and catalogs for months and love when the PbTeen catalog comes. My other daughter has a lot of sleeping issues as well so I understand how hard that is a parent. I wish you much luck!
Hi Michelle! Just had to comment here instead of on your bi-fold door post (which I am SOOO glad you linked up to the party by the way!) because I didn't want to leave 2 comments on that one and then another one here which would just seem kind of weird and obsessive. ANYWAY, just wanted you to know that I think it was such a great idea to make that "deal" with your girl and I love all of your inspiration pics especially the one that doubles as bench style seating! My sister redid my neice's room with Ikea furniture and created a craft/sewing area, added a raised bed with a trundle and all of this wonderful storage perfect for a pre-teen. I know whatever you do it will look fabulous and I can't wait for you to show us!

I will be anxiously awaiting the reveal. I am slowly working on my sons room transition from little kid to big kid. I know what we are doing...oh but to find the time!
Hi Michelle,
Love your inspiration for your daughters room! I have a 12 year old daughter- it's a hard age... they are not quite teen's and not little girls anymore... sometimes I think it's hard for them to know where they fit in, you know? I love the idea of creating a space that she will love and that will be all about her- great idea. Can't wait to see the finished product! :)
Hey Michelle,
I'm really looking forward to following what you do with your little girl's room.
And don't worry about your constraints with the room.
You're so creative with your interior thinking that I'm certain you'll find a solution that not only makes the best of it but makes a real feature of it.

Hi Michelle! Had to pop over and say hi! Excited to have found your pretty blog. I love the second to last image. I could sleep in there myself. Such great possibilities. Excited to look back at other posts of yours. I am happy to be following!
Mmmmmm... I love them all!
I love all of your inspiration rooms, especially the second to last one. I can't wait to see what you decide to do. I want to redo my daughter's room too...I think I'm going to go with pink, brown and white :)
Hi Michelle! I'm just loving the whole idea here for your daughter's room. All of those rooms are just soooo wonderful! Love the batten board walls in the first one, the colors in the third one, and the airiness of the last one. Looks like you're going to have a fun time with your daughter with this re-do! Can hardly wait to see.....! :)

Sorry to hear that your daughter is having sleep issues! What a drag...I really hope your idea to redo her room works to comfort her. I just recently read in one of my magazines about a girl's surf room. I'll work on that for you. Stacey

What fun this will be to watch. I love all of the images and can't wait to see what you do.
